Help Japan

Rosettas for Relief - March 30th at Market Lane, 6:30pm.

Market Lane Coffee will open their doors tomorrow on their day off to host a Cup of Relief. Toshi and a host of other volunteers will be behind the machines with all proceeds will be donated to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Market Lane will also be hosting the follow up Rosettas for Relief event on March 30th, donating all proceeds to the victims of these tragic events. The format is the same as last years - 32 of Melbourne’s best baristas go head to head in a latte art throw down.

It seems that the genius, the really smart and clever ideas are often the most simple. Case in point these wall clamps designed by Brendan Ravenhill that screw into the walls, the clamp allows for any flat surface to form a shelf. Just the solution I was looking for the Swear Words new reception area.

I fly out tonight to begin work on my first international project located in Fuzhou, China. I'm beyond thrilled and excited...it's a whirlwind site visit, so I'll be offline for the week. Catch you back here on Friday.

China

I am currently designing a small speciality coffee roastery in Fuzhou, China. I leave on Monday to do a little reccy and lock in floor plans. The building the cafe will be housed in is from 1912, it's the old YMCA building, it's a brick building and I have 2 stories to work with. So far I have seen only photos of the space - this photo in particular is exciting to me, it's of the terrace on the 4th floor. This tree growing through the bricks is just breath-taking. I'm definitely having a 'pinch me' moment with this job. x

Kids furniture

A lot of kids furniture around is pretty naff, so I was very happy to find these cute and colourful (and gender neutral) sofas for kids. Designed and manufactured in Melbourne (double tick) these modular couches mean you can mix and match pieces to create your own layout and design. The patterns will hide any thrills and spills (I can't say the same for my cream couch) and would think you could make some pretty sick forts too!
